Prompt #7: My First day at FIT/First day of College
My first day of college was more nerve wracking than it should’ve been. Here I was, a kid with only a year of design knowledge stepping into a world where people could draw whatever they imagined. However, I knew my entrepreneurial drive would set me apart, and help set the tone for what I would bring to the lion’s den. Eli Kince’s morning class was the wake up call I needed. I remember him asking about our experiences, and then shutting it all down. None of it mattered, we needed to come into this class with an open mind. There was no “I can’t paint,” but rather “Have you tried? Like actually tried?”
Aside from Kince setting us up for life, my first day was spent in the library for the most part. I ate my lunch, watched my youtube and kept to myself. Looking back, I wish I’d found that ground to grow with, but am forever grateful for the individuals I met and became close friends with to this day. In fact, my second class of the day is where I met Megi, someone who’d become a close friend of mine. I consider her to be my first real friend at FIT, because of who she was in and out of class. That Monday set the tone for the rest of my FIT career, and who knew it would be full of unexpected surprises.
