School lunches are comparable to chewing wet cardboard, however, absolutely nothing compared to the crispy gooeyness of mozzarella sticks. It was the lifeblood of our lunch time. Whenever we saw it on the menu, we knew it was going to be a good day. And when it was finally served, friends suddenly turned to foes. The lunch room filled with kids whispering “You gonna finish those?”, trying to deal their way into more mozzarella sticks. Who knew such a simple microwavable food could turn into a hot commodity within the public school system.

I believe this shared experience amongst most of us within the public school system is something that bonds our generation together. It’s almost a supernatural phenomenon, strings of mozzarella binding us together. During a time when all we had was each other, no Instagram or TikTok, we had the chance to enjoy little things like this. This isn’t to say social media is entirely cancerous, but we must get back to our roots. It’s sole purpose was to connect us, and right now we are more disconnected than ever. So at your next reunion, get together, or hang out, throw some mozzarella sticks in there and enjoy the nostalgia it manifests.
