Prompt #2: Write a tongue-in-cheek, satirical tribute
This is dedicated to all the fearless drivers out there. You know who you are. When cars are flying down the highway at 60mph, you cruise at a nonchalant 30mph trying to dictate traffic. Turn signals are so overrated, and you’ve figured out the best solution. To floor it. You’re giving grandma a run for her money, measuring who has the longest tail of cars in a two-lane street. What’s next? 24/7 high beams?!
As frustrated as I may sound, this isn’t the point of this piece. This is a thank you. As annoying as you are on the road, you humble drivers across the nation. In a digital world run by instant gratification, you make us wait. Maybe we don’t need to go so fast, since we’re never told otherwise. We can learn something from you, to slow down and enjoy the now. Because neighborhoods we zoom past look different at 10mph.
